The Reason You Shouldn't Think About Making Improvements To Your Double Travel Buggy

What to Look For in a Double Travel Buggy

A compact side-byside with a small footprint (for use in public transport and narrow doors). Add seats or a carrycot (with adaptors) to increase the size of the frame for kids up to 50 lbs per seat.

A budget-friendly, basic double with rear and front suspensions to make light work of uneven surfaces, a massive storage basket, and a cushioned handlebar for parents with different heights.

Size

In general,  double pushchair s are wider than single models, especially when they're side-by-side buggies, like the Kolcraft Geo 3 and UPPAbaby Vista 2. The good news is that this extra width enables them to carry heavier kids without straining the chassis. They also have other key features that make them stand out, such as large pop-out canopy sizes with SPF 50 and windows that peek out as well as swivel lock front tires which help navigate narrow spots like shopping aisles cup holders for one parent and the clever fold mechanism that is able to be completed with one hand; and 10-inch back wheels that aren't built for rough terrain but can manage city streets and theme parks quite well.

In terms of cost, these types of lightweight buggies that are side-by-side are quite affordable.

Weight

The lighter the double buggy the more easy it is to move and lift. The Joie Evalite Duo, which is the lightest of our Lab tests, is an excellent choice if weight is an issue. It still has many features, including an enormous pop-out canopy that has SPF50 and a peekaboo windows as well as a quick-release folding mechanism that can be folded flat in a matter of seconds and a four-wheel suspension for rough terrain, and a swivel wheel at the front that allows you to maneuver narrow aisles in supermarkets and shops. It's also super-affordable at just more than PS1,000. It can also carry twins or a baby and toddler with the purchase of an additional'sidepack'.

Flexibility

A good double buggy will provide a great deal of flexibility, regardless if you have twins or a baby and a toddler. Narrow tandem buggies are great to fit into tight spaces, while side-byside models ensure that your children are properly cared for and allow you to keep an eye on them as you navigate the supermarket or park. There are a variety of seats so that you can modify the seat as your child grows. Some even permit the addition of the option of a car seat or ride-on board.

The Joie Evalite duo is an excellent example. It can hold two seats or a car seat, and its adaptors that are easy to use let you change from a single seat to a double in just a few seconds. It also comes with a spacious pop-out UPF 50+ sunshade canopy with adjustable leg rests as well as windows that peek out from both seats as well as the standing fold is simple and quick to fold using just one hand; and a high-quality suspension that can take care of rough terrain.

Tri-fold buggies such as the iCandy Peach are another versatile choice. Their slim frames are ideal for negotiating narrow aisles and doors, while they are able to accommodate twins, a baby or a big kid thanks to the addition of UPPAbaby's "PiggyBack board (which you can purchase separately). The basket is spacious and comes with all the extras including liners and raincovers.

Tandem buggies typically have children seated side-by-side, which makes them easier to push and more stable on uneven surfaces but can be tricky to maneuver around kerbs. They typically have a larger footprint than a single-seater pushchair, and can be a bit long to get through doorways.

Comfort

One of the most comfortable, lightweight doubles we've tested, this buggy features seats that are elevated to the level of stadium seats so that your children can have a great view. It also has nice-sized UPF 50+ canopies with windows that peek out; a padded toddler seat and an additional RumbleSeat that has adjustable legs and foot rests; and the cup holder that is single-parent. The seats recline independently by pressing a lever beneath each seat. Testers also love how the straps can be fastened or unfastened with one hand. It's also easy to fold, with a twist mechanism on the handle that makes it as easy as is possible and can be stored with the backrest up for easy access.

With 30 different configurations (it'll carry twins, a baby and toddler or three kids with the addition of a "PiggyBack" board) this is a fantastic option for families who want to be able to grow with their child. Its large shopping basket and soft suspension make it suitable on roads and in cities too. It's also a great value. BabyGearLab recommends this product for children up to the age of six.
